Welcome to The Second Post in The AI Nine O Series, Where We Present Easy-to-Digest AI Concepts in Ninety Seconds.
Remember Jarvis from the Iron Man series? What kind of AI is Jarvis? Can AI actually think today? We will classify AI based on its capabilities, meaning what work it can do now or may do in the future.

Quick links
#1: Weak AI
Weak AI, also called Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI) or Narrow AI, is a type of AI that can do specific tasks (Mucci & Stryker, 2023a).
For example, it can create images like an artist, write essays and poems like an author, or generate codes like a human programmer would do. So, it can do a set of particular tasks.
Most of today's AI is Weak AI, such as ChatGPT, MidJourney, or self-driving cars.
#2: Strong AI
Strong AI, also known as General AI or Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), if made, would do many things like reasoning, learning, and solving problems more like a human (Mucci & Stryker, 2023b). It is still in the papers and may take many years to develop.
The fictional character of Jarvis from the Iron Man series can be termed as strong AI, as it's capable of doing many things where human intelligence is required.
#3: Super AI
Super AI, Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) or Conscious AI do not exist today. If made, it would leap forward human intelligence in all aspects of thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, and creativity (What Is Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)?, 2024). Although popular in sci-fi movies to depict AI characters, Super AI is still a hypothetical concept.
You can see Super AI in action in sci-fi movies.
